rebecca weiss MSN, NPD-BC, cen, ccrn-k • CHAPTER president
I am so excited and honored to serve as President for the GPC-ANPD this year.
In my current role as a Programmatic Nurse Specialist, I am the clinical educator of UPMC Shadyside’s Emergency Department. I am also the Sepsis Coordinator for UPMC Shadyside. My role consists of teaching, coordinating new hire’s onboarding experiences, creating new education and identifying needs, and assessing the current state with sepsis care and facilitating practices to improve patient outcomes. My areas of expertise are in critical care (ICU/ED) and Nursing Education and Professional Development. I am certified in Emergency Nursing (CEN), Critical Care (CCRN-K), and Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC). I am an active member of ANPD, and was a podium presenter at the 2019 Conference in Phoenix. I believe I bring a fresh perspective to nursing education and professional development, and my roles have allowed me to really delve into different perspectives and approaches. My areas of interest include onboarding and orientation, different modalities to deliver education, simulation, evidence based practice, and efficient workflows. I am currently in my DNP at the University of Pittsburgh for Health Systems Executive and will graduate in August of 2020. I am also an active member in SWPONL, and sit on their Education Committee (conference and event planning). In my term, I hope to recruit more members and create a robust platform where NPD Practitioners from all over the Greater Pittsburgh Region can share, develop, and inspire.

Brian shipper • treasurer
My name is Brian Shipper and I am currently a Registered Nurse working in the role of an Improvement Specialist in the Department of Patient Safety an Innovation at UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside. I took on this role in September of this year after transferring from my role as Administrator on Duty at UPMC Mercy. I was in that role for two and a half years following about three years working on a Medical Progressive Care Unit at UPMC Mercy (10E). I graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing (MHSON) in 2014 with my Diploma in Nursing. Before attending MHSON, I attended Washington and Jefferson College and graduated with a BA in Philosophy; and over the last few years I obtained my MSN from California University of PA and will be graduating with my MBA from there this Spring. My interest in healthcare improvement was sparked during my time on 10E which led me to becoming the chair of UPMC Mercy’s Night Council (one of 7 house-wide shared leadership councils), and was solidified throughout my MSN which led me to accepting my current position. I also recently accepted a position as a clinical adjunct faculty member at Duquesne University and will have my first cohort of students this Spring. I remain dedicated to the nursing profession and am looking forward to utilizing my education and experience to mold the next generation of nurses. I am currently an active member of the National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ), the Pennsylvanian Organization of Nurse Leaders – Southwest Chapter (SWPONL), and sit on the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association Board of Directors. Though I have not held a Treasurer position before, my recent MBA education has prepared me to take on the responsibility of managing the assets and liabilities of this ANPD chapter and I welcome the challenge of putting my education to the test, and to have “real world” experience to build upon that unique skillset. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the nursing community and to continue to promote quality health care and drive the advancement of nursing professional development practice.

suzan dunn • member at large
I have been involved in the development of professional practice since 1977.
Starting out in the Surgical ICU and Recovery Room at Allegheny General Hospital, working in clinical education then as a staff nurse in the Trauma Unit. Then coming to Jefferson in 1990 starting in the Emergency Dept and Cardiac Stress testing, but my passion has always been in education! Early on in my career, the only professional organization in the city was a very active Recovery Room Nurses organization that started at Montefiore Hospital. A group of us intensive care nurses joined but realized we needed to start a chapter for Critical Care nurses here in Pittsburgh; hence came the Three Rivers Chapter AACN! In addition to AACN, I have been a member of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the ANPD for several years. We are lucky to have our chapter newly revitalized and I am looking forward to taking the Pittsburgh Chapter ANPD to an exciting new level.
